Municipal Government

Local government is where policy becomes pavement, permits, and budgets.

Planning and land use

As a Planning and Development Intern for the City of Ball Ground, I researched and drafted material for a corridor overlay district, built parcel inventories and land-use analyses, and worked through zoning and design standards, the unglamorous documents that decide what a small city looks like in twenty years.

Municipal policy research

At the Georgia Municipal Association I researched state and municipal policy for cities across Georgia on environmental, broadband, housing, poverty, infrastructure, and community development questions, analyzed municipal and legislative data, and helped coordinate a broadband seminar for member cities. My article on qualified immunity came out of that work.

County administration and grants

For the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government I managed ARPA-funded housing, homelessness, and youth development projects, monitored nonprofit partner compliance with federal requirements, and prepared grant materials and strategic plan narratives, more than $20M in HUD applications, and $8M to $10M in federal funding secured. More of that work is on the policy & public service page.
